which has raised over $100k for Children’s Cancer Foundation
Xtreme Dance Studio’s 15th Annual Nutty Nutcracker Performance will be hosted by Northland Church this year, all proceeds to benefit BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation.
Longwood, FL (October 13, 2021) – Northland Church will play host to Xtreme Dance Studio’s 15th Annual Nutty Nutcracker performance on December 17, 2021 at 7:00pm. Proceeds from the event, which are comprised of show ticket sales, silent auction items, raffle ticket sales, sponsorships, and a HUGE dancewear sale, will be donated to BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation. The event is expected to bring in more than $20,000 to BASE Camp, based in Winter Park, which provides year-round assistance to children and families afflicted by cancer and other life-threatening hematological illnesses.
Studio Owner, Sheri Metcalf directs the performance, which showcases original choreography to retell the holiday classic, “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.” The production features a variety of genres – ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, musical theater, and hip hop – set to Tchaikovsky compositions, in addition to more contemporary music, such as “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree.” The cast is comprised of more than 50 Xtreme Dance students, ages 6-18.
As a young dancer, Sheri Metcalf learned the importance of reaching out for community support to promote worthy causes. Under the guidance of Cathy Gillespie, Sheri participated in the “Kick for Kare” program every year, helping to raise thousands of dollars for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Arnold Palmer Hospital. When Sheri’s mother, Diane Marie Corino, lost her battle to Lymphoma Cancer, Sheri was able to use the knowledge and exp
erience she learned as a young dancer to coordinate community events in support of the Lymphoma Cancer Society. Every year, Sheri produces “The Nutty Nutcracker” which provides a vehicle for the community to not only participate monetarily in important causes but also gain the knowledge to understand the continued need still out there.
